Biome Description:

Paleotropical (“old tropics”) forests are part of the larger rainforest biome. The planet’s rainforests are all located near the equator and are characterized by a hot, humid climate. The paleotropics possess some of the planet’s most ancient plant forms.

Soundscape Description:

Many soundscapes in the paleotropics are dominated by over two dozen species of cicadas (some the size of your hand!), large primates (e.g., gibbons and proboscis monkeys), a variety of hornbills (large bodied birds with massive beaks) and dozens of tropical tree frog species.
