Temperate forests are located around the mid-latitudes of the northern (United States, Europe, China, Russia) and southern (Argentina, Australia and South Africa) hemispheres. Northern temperate forests have four seasons – winter, spring, summer and fall.
Soundscapes in the temperate forest are highly seasonal, with spring peepers (frogs) early in the year, neotropical migratory birds and breeding birds in the spring, and insects (cicadas, katydids, and crickets) in the late summer to late fall.
